This training program is intended for individuals designated as the Competent Person during excavation and trenching activities, which may include managers, supervisors, lead workers or operators. It provides a fundamental understanding of excavation and trenching standards for the Competent Person, and exceeds State and federal training requirements.

• Identify and avoid potentially hazardous situations.
• Understand responsibilities as the authorized Competent Person
• Be familiar with soil analysis and the soil classification system
• Be familiar with the use of protective systems
• Be familiar with regulations and requirements.
• Identify existing and predictable hazards or working conditions that are hazardous, unsanitary, or dangerous to employees, or could result in cave-ins, failure in protective systems, hazardous atmospheres, and other hazards including confined spaces.
